Do You Have Yellow Fever?

I've been a member of HubPages for a while now, and I've written quite a few Hubs about dating Asian women.

So that got me thinking, do I have yellow fever? Do men who date Asian women have yellow fever? Or is there more to it than that?

By the way, Yellow Fever is a real disease (caused by mosquitos), but it also refers to a slang term for Western (and usually white) men who like Asian women.

Getting technical for a bit, the urban dictionary defines Yellow Fever as:

A term usually applied to white males who have a clear sexual preference for women of asian descent, although it can also be used in reference to white females who prefer asian men.

Sure, there are some Western women who like Asian men. But in all my various visits to Japan and China I can't say that I've seen more than half a dozen Western women with Asian boyfriends on their arm. But Western men with Asian girlfriends, well that's another matter...

Let's get this straight - a lot of men like Asian women. Adult movies and websites featuring Asians are some of the most popular out there. And many men who view this stuff probably don't have an Asian wife or girlfriend.

As someone who has visited Japan a number of times, I've also got to know a lot about people who love Japanese culture. This can afflict both males and females. The males are usually into Manga, Anime, computer games and maybe collecting plastic figures of cute girls. The girls who love Japanese culture are often into dressing up as gothic lolitas or cosplaying as some Manga or Anime girl. Again, the Urban Dictionary refers to these people as "Wapanese", i.e. white Japanese people. They're usually common in most Western cities, and are one of the many modern tribes such as Wiggers, Goths and Emos.

Funnily enough the majority of Wapanese people have never visited Japan, so they usually have very little idea of what the place is really like. They're sure hostile if you say something bad about Japan though!

I also see this with a lot of men who have Yellow Fever. In fact when I first started dating Asian women I used to post on a particular forum asking for advice. Occasionally I used to get very hostile comments from men whenever I said anything bad about Asian women. The funny thing is, the biggest defenders of Asian women used to be the men who had never visited Asia, and who had probably never even met an Asian woman in person.

So it's my experience that the men with the worst cases of Yellow Fever have usually had the least contact with Asian women.

Now it's my experience that the majority of Westerners know very little about Asian people. They think Asian women are all poor farm workers who live in tin shacks and grow rice or shrimp for a living.

Sure, there are plenty of poor people in Asia, but there is also increasing wealth in Asia. And Japan and South Korea are both way ahead of the USA in terms of the wealth of the general population. China is also wealthy in places, and there are plenty of shopping malls in China where I can't even afford to go shopping.

One thing about Asian people is that they work hard and are very determined to get a better life for themselves and their families. No wonder the Asian Tiger is rising while America and Western Europe is on a debt fuelled hangover.

While I admit I might have had a little Yellow Fever myself, my love of Asian women has only increased since I have actually met and dated them.

On the whole I have found Asian women to be intelligent, friendly and they have really worked hard to make sure I've had a great time when I've visited them.

Will they make good wives? I have no doubt that they would. I've found them to be much better dressed than the ladies in my own country. They don't often smoke or drink. They reminded me of 1950's England, when ladies were very feminine and men still wore hats in public. Sure, they have plenty of problems, and it's unwise to think that Asian women are better than American women or Canadian women or wome from any other country. This has elements of the grass is greener syndrome...

Of course, the modern Asian lady has other advantages that most 1950's English women weren't afforded. I know most about China, and in China it's possible for a woman to be very successful without a man to assist her. People talk about Asian mail order brides as being poor and uneducated. Yet one of the Asian women I met turned out to be a millionaire with a car and driver. On top of that she spoke very good English, and had travelled to many different parts of the world.

So if men have Yellow Fever then I reckon its justified. Asian women are some of the most intelligent, the most beautiful and most interesting you will ever meet.
